Install the ThreoAI Desktop App
Install ThreoAI as a desktop app on Windows or macOS - download from the account menu, silent MSI deployment for IT and MSSPs, and automatic app updates.
What you’ll accomplish
Section titled “What you’ll accomplish”You will install ThreoAI as a desktop app on Windows or macOS and sign in once, so it opens from its own icon with your session intact and keeps itself up to date. If you manage a fleet, the Deploy to a fleet section covers the MSI path for RMM tooling instead.
The app is named Synthreo Wingtip - that is the name on the installer you download and in your applications list - but it is the same ThreoAI as the browser version: same account, same conversations, same features, so there is nothing new to learn and no separate account to create.
What you’ll need
Section titled “What you’ll need”- A ThreoAI account you can already sign in to in the browser, including single sign-on if your organization uses it.
- Windows or macOS. The installer is offered from inside ThreoAI, so you also need the browser version open once.
- For fleet deployment only: an RMM or other deployment tool that can run an MSI elevated or as SYSTEM.
1. Download the installer from the account menu
Section titled “1. Download the installer from the account menu”In ThreoAI in your browser, open the account menu (your avatar, top-right) and choose Download for Windows or Download for macOS. Only the row matching your operating system is offered.
Or use the direct links, which always serve the current release:
- Windows: downloads.synthreo.ai/desktop/win/SynthreoWingtip-Setup.exe
- macOS: downloads.synthreo.ai/desktop/mac/SynthreoWingtip.dmg
You’ll see the installer download in your browser either way.
2. Run the installer
Section titled “2. Run the installer”- Windows: run the downloaded setup. A standard wizard installs the app for your user account and creates Start menu and desktop shortcuts.
- macOS: open the downloaded DMG and drag Synthreo Wingtip into Applications.
You’ll see Synthreo Wingtip in your Start menu or Applications folder when the installer finishes.
3. Launch and sign in
Section titled “3. Launch and sign in”Open Synthreo Wingtip and sign in with your usual ThreoAI credentials, including single sign-on if your organization uses it.
You’ll see the ThreoAI workspace open in the app window - the same home you see in the browser. You stay signed in on later launches; there is no need to sign in every time.
Deploy to a fleet (IT admins and MSSPs)
Section titled “Deploy to a fleet (IT admins and MSSPs)”For RMM or other mass-deployment tooling, use the MSI package instead of the interactive installer. MSI packages are versioned; read the current version number from downloads.synthreo.ai/desktop/win/latest.yml, then download:
https://downloads.synthreo.ai/desktop/win/SynthreoWingtip-<version>-x64.msiDeploy with a standard silent install:
msiexec /i SynthreoWingtip-<version>-x64.msi /qnThree things to know:
- Run it elevated or as SYSTEM. Unlike the interactive installer, which installs for one user, the MSI is a per-machine install (Program Files, all-users Start menu) built for the SYSTEM context that RMM agents run in. There is no prompt when run that way. A standard user double-clicking the MSI gets an administrator prompt instead, so hand individual users the interactive installer, not the MSI.
- The app still updates itself afterwards. Once installed, the app updates from Synthreo’s release feed like any other install. Because a per-machine update writes to Program Files, a standard (non-admin) user sees an administrator prompt for each update; cancelling it leaves the current version running. Fleets with standard users who should never see that prompt can push each release through the RMM instead - the app’s own update check does no harm alongside it.
- Remove self-installed copies first. If people already installed the app themselves, the per-user copy and the per-machine copy coexist. Uninstall the per-user copy in the same RMM script, running that step as the user (SYSTEM cannot see another user’s install).
Updates and checking your version
Section titled “Updates and checking your version”The app checks for updates when it starts, downloads them in the background, and installs them when you quit or restart. To see what you are running or check on demand, open the account menu inside the desktop app: it shows the installed version and a Check for updates action that reports a clear outcome - up to date, downloading, ready to restart, or a plain-language reason it could not check.
When an update is ready, you can restart into it immediately from the same menu instead of waiting for your next quit.
If it didn’t work
Section titled “If it didn’t work”- The download rows are missing from the account menu. They only appear in the browser; inside the desktop app they are replaced by the version and update controls, because you already have the app.
- A second window does not open. That is by design: launching the app again focuses the window you already have rather than starting a second copy.
- The page fails to load. If your network is down or the service is unreachable, the app shows an error screen with a Try again button. Try again when your connection is back; your session is not lost.
- You are asked to sign in again after an update or restart. Sign in once and continue; your session normally persists between launches. If you are asked to sign in on every launch, report it as a bug and mention you are using the desktop app.
- The RMM install succeeded but users cannot see the app. The MSI was most likely run without elevation or in a per-user context. Re-run it elevated or as SYSTEM so it lands in Program Files.
